Citizens coming from countries out of EU, European Economic Area (*) and Switzerland, staying in Italy for more than three months, must apply for a residence permit. For a less than three months stay, they do not have to apply for it.
The application for a residence permit must be done within 8 working days after the arrival in Italy.
All applications must be done through any Post Office. The Post Office provides a kit including the application form and all the information concerning the necessary documents.

(*) European Union Countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom;
European Economic Area Countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway.
